DeHaven-Smith's art is an aspect of his lifelong interest in politics and
power. It explores varying ways in which power and status are
expressed in architecture, personality, and nature.
DeHaven-Smith won “best in show” in the 2007 Southeast Regional
Fine Arts Exhibition for his painting, “Bright Night at Alligator
Point.” In 2006, he was awarded second place in this competition
for his painting, “Written in Stone.” The Southeast Regional Fine
Arts competition is sponsored by the Arts and Design Society of Fort
Walton Beach, Florida.
In 2008, deHaven-Smith was given a one-man-show at the Mattie Kelly Arts
Center at the Northwest Florida State College.
